Wrestling and Caber Clinics
These are held Thursday and Friday before the games on the West end of the field. They are staffed by Athletic volunteers and will teach you how to wrestle and toss the caber. These clinics are for all ages and anyone can come out to learn these sports.
What to Expect
- Wrestling is first, followed by the Caber Clinic
- We will enter from the West end of the field
- You are NOT required to participate to be on the field to learn.
- Spectators are encouraged and can photograph/video
Wrestling
This is Scottish Backhold wrestling with 2 of 3 falls declaring the winner.
- This is a hard sport with hard falls .. everyone ends up on the ground.
- Competitors will be separated into boys and girls and then ordered by size/age and separated into circles
- The basics will be taught and then competitors will get a chance to practice against potential opponents
- Competitors should be bare-foot for this event.
Caber Toss
Caber Toss is the a sport where a large pole is stood up with the heavy end up, lifted and managed by the competitor, and then “flippped” end over end.
- You will learn how to properly manage a caber and throw it
- The best score is when it flips end over end and lands facing away from you at 12:00
- We have all sizes of caber on the field, so everyone can try
- It’s harder than it looks, but everyone should be able to flip the practice cabers
- Shoes ARE RECOMMENDED for Caber, especially if the field is wet.
What to bring
- Water – hydration is Good
- Sunblock – cloudy or sunny
- Camera – will be lots of opportunities to flip the caber
