The 71st Grandfather Mountain Highland Games are set for Thursday, July 8 through Sunday, July 11, 2027, at MacRae Meadows in Linville. Camp opens before the Games. Check-in dates and the date camping registration opens haven’t been posted yet; we’ll update this post as soon as GMHG announces them.
Camping basics (from GMHG’s camping page; confirm before you book)
- Register in advance; there are no onsite reservations. Each tent is registered separately at its actual size, and every registration includes a four-day adult ticket.
- Last year’s tent prices (five-night minimum): 2-person $175, 4-person $225, 6-person $275, 8-person $325, plus $35–$65 per extra night. Call the field office about 10-person tents. Stays run up to 10 nights.
- Sites aren’t assigned; placement is first-come, first-served. The 11 p.m. curfew side fills first, then the 1 a.m. side.
- Power is 20-amp throughout, with limited 30-amp. Leave the AC, microwave, heater and hair dryer at home. Water points are shared, so bring a long hose and a Y splitter.
- Bring real leveling lumber (up to 6 inches) and cinder blocks for trailer tongues. Only local (Avery or adjoining county) firewood is allowed, and it’s sold onsite.
- No pets (ADA service animals excepted), no vehicles or bikes at campsites, no unauthorized vending, no refunds.
